Division 6 – COMPOSITION

NOTE: The Composition classes for ALL instruments and voice are offered in this separate division.

Please be sure to read all the rules and regulations and note the following:

  • For classes where age limits are specified, participants must be of the prescribed age on the first day of January in the current year of the Festival. All participants must state their age on the entry form.
  • Participants in the Creative Music classes are asked to submit their own original composition either for a solo instrument/voice or any combination of instruments up to a maximum of 20 performers.
  • The participant must submit to the Creative Division Coordinator either a hand- written copy or computer-generated print-out of the composition 48 hours in advance of the scheduled perfomance. The score must be signed by the student composer.
  • The student composer of the composition must be present to introduce the piece before it is performed.
  • The performers are not required to perform from memory and no marks will be deducted if the music is used.
  • In the adjudicator’s comments, emphasis will be on the creativity of the composition, but some consideration will also be given to the accuracy of the notation of the score.
  • Participants in the creative music classes will receive certificates of participation. NO marks or standings will be given.

COMPOSITION

Participants in these classes will be awarded Certificates of Participation. Neither marks nor standings will be given. The participant must submit to the Composition Division Coordinator a complete notated copy of the composition 48 hours in advance of the scheduled performance. The score must be signed by the student composer.

INSTRUMENTAL ORIGINAL COMPOSITION

Original compositions written for Woodwind, Brass and/or Percussion instruments.
