School Choirs
Solo, Duet and trio classes for untrained voices are also available for members of school choirs who have not studied with a private vocal teacher.

Please be sure to read all the rules and regulations and note the following:
- Conductors or participants are asked to be prepared to announce the title and composer of their selected pieces.
- Each member of all school choirs or ensembles must be from one designated school only. Choirs and ensembles with members from more than one school should refer to the Choral and the Drama divisions in this syllabus.
- Please list the approximate number of students in the choir or ensemble on the back of the entry form.
- Pieces may be transposed by one tone, up or down.
- A chord may be given on the piano at the commencement of each piece of unaccompanied music.
- By federal law, photocopying of music is illegal. No photocopies will be accepted, unless there is accompanying documentation indicating permission to photocopy was granted by the copyright holder.
- Music that has been downloaded from the Internet must include a confirmation to indicate that it has been legally downloaded.
- All choirs and ensembles in these classes will receive an adjudication/comment sheet indicating a mark and a certificate indicating a standing as outlined below unless otherwise indicated under the class heading. A certificate and an adjudication/comment sheet will be present to each participating group. Unless otherwise indicated under the class heading in the syllabus, standings will be awarded on the certificates according to the following scale of marks:
GOLD – a mark of 85 or higher
SILVER – a mark of 80 to 84
BRONZE – a mark of 75 to 79
PARTICIPANT- mark of 74 or lower - The adjudicator may recommend a choir or ensemble which is felt to be of National standard to represent the Orillia Festival at the Ontario Provincial Music Festival competitions in one of four categories. If recommended, the choir selected would be requested to submit a good-quality CD recording of the same two selections performed in the class for which they were recommended. The recording must be done with the same conductor, accompanist and accompaniment as in the original performance and must be supervised and approved by a local Festival official. Arrangements for the recording sessions are the responsibility of the choir or ensemble selected. Note: To be recommended for the Provincial competition in Choral Speaking, participants must enter the appropriate classes in the Drama division. School Choir Classes

Classroom Choir
Each participating group is to perform two “Own Choice” selections for each class. Each classroom choir may have a maximum of 30 students.

Choral Speaking
Each participating group is to perform two “Own Choice” selections. At least one of the selections should have a definite rhythmic pulse as its central feature.

Each participating group is to perform two “Own Choice” selections. Each ensemble must have no more than 20 members.
